The Finnish Research Information hub service portal research.fi will be opened on the 9th of June 2020!

Research.fi-service portal gathers and shares information on scientific research carried out in Finland in an easily accessible way and format. The portal opens on the 9th of June, and will benefit researchers, media, business, research organisations and decision makers and all those who are interested in research.

A new service collecting and sharing information on research carried out in Finland

  • The details of researchers, publications, research datasets, research projects and research infrastructures will soon be available in one place
  • There will be less reporting and administrative work as the data is available in a single location and information flows freely between services
  • Results of both publicly and privately funded research will be openly accessible
  • This will benefit researchers, research organizations, funding agencies, public administration and citizens

What?

The new service currently under development will collect and share information on scientific research carried out in Finland. The new service will contain information on researchers, research organizations, publications, research datasets, research funding and research infrastructures.

Who?

The service is being developed as part of the Finnish Research Information Hub project of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Ministry of Education and Culture has commissioned CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd. to build the Finnish Research Information Hub. CSC is carrying out the work in cooperation with higher education institutions, other research organizations and funding agencies.

How?

Information already stored in the systems of such organizations as universities and research funding agencies will be automatically transferred to the Finnish Research Information Hub, which means that researchers do not need to spend more time on reporting and administrative work. The service will feature adequate descriptive information, making openly accessible publications and datasets easy to find.

By combining data kept in different source systems, it is possible to construct smooth data flows between research organizations, funding agencies and services used by researchers. In the Finnish Research Information Hub, information stored in a specific location is also available to other users and it is not necessary to enter the data several times. Efficient data flows benefit researchers, research organizations, funding agencies and public administration actors making knowledge-based decisions.

Where?

The information collected to the service will be publicly accessible in an open web portal that provides a broad view of Finnish science and research. It makes research data easier to find and enhances the societal impact of research. The main aim is to present the data stored in the Finnish Research Information Hub in an informative and easy-to-use manner.
The web portal will be a window to Finnish science and in addition to the scientific community, it will be used by companies that need research information, the media and the public.
The portal will be available in Finnish, Swedish and English and the last mentioned can be viewed at research.fi.

When?

The construction of the service started at the end of 2017 and it should be ready and running in 2020.
